When did Ruby 6 Hair and Beauty begin and what was the reason behind its inception?
I had owned and ran the salon as Genna’s on George for 9 years until I was about to take a break to have my second baby. It was the end of 2010 and the beautiful staff that worked with me, came to me and offered to buy in and continue to work together! There was six of us at the time but now there’s four, which is Rhiannon O’Brien, Erin Weal, Shelley Carter-Fox and me. We also have Tanya Siakisoni that works with us as well.
What was your biggest win over the last few years?
I would have to say that having such a great team is our biggest win. We all work together and support each other as a whole team. We share the wins and losses together and its been so great to have the group mentality.
What has been the biggest challenge over the last few years?
After we came back from COVID, we had a realisation that we had spent so much time with our families that we needed to be sure when we returned that we set boundaries around our schedules. We felt like we really had the opportunity to take back some control that we didn’t have before.
What was the best business advice you’ve ever been given?
A long time ago, someone had said to me that in business and life, you never stop learning. In our salon, that is definitely how we look at it.
Whats your favourite thing about Bathurst?
I love that with raising our kids, they can have their own identity but still have that community around them! Bathurst can be small enough so that you know people but big enough to take advantages of opportunities.
